Ian Chipperfield
Ian Chipperfield originally trained as a modern dressmaker and pattern cutter but has devoted the last 14 years to researching and reproducing garments from museum collections. His work is mainly used by professional interpreters at historic locations across England and Ireland. Clients also include period dancers, re-enactors and private individuals who appreciate the high standard of his work. Examples of his work may be seen on his website at http://thestaymaker.co.uk/.
Ian's principle research interests are underwear and the cut and construction of clothes. His studies have taken him to museums large and small across England. In 2002 his first journal article was published based on a find in a small regional museum.
Over a period of seven years Ian has spoken to nearly 100 groups ranging from WI., genealogical and local history groups, friends of museums, the Early Dance Circle, the Norfolk Costume and Textile Association and many private groups. Frequently repeat bookings have resulted.
As well as offering workshops Ian holds a regular private sewing group for period dancers in Norwich making 16th, 17th and 18th century dance costumes and re-enactment clothing.
